Walk Away

I want to walk with Faithful. It’s one of things I hoped for when I got him. I want to do everything with him. I want to share life with him. Walking will be so good for him. Dogs absolutely love walking.

There’s only one problem. He won’t get out of the garden.

He wants to eat mulch.

I chide him, “No Faithful.” He doesn’t seem to hear me.

He continues to eat mulch. Next thing I know he has a big piece of bark that he’s chewing on. Mulch is toxic. It’s sharp and could cut his throat. I run over and get it out of his mouth before he gets hurt.

I call his name.

I call him again.

Nothing. Again and again I try. He still won’t come. I tug on his leash. Nothing. I tug a little harder.

I can’t do anything to make him come.

I just want him to walk with me.

He doesn’t understand.

I don’t want anything from him.

I just want to be with him.

He’d rather sit there and chew on mulch. He doesn’t know what he’s missing.

We do this in our lives.

God calls us to come walk with Him. We don’t come. We’d rather chew on mulch.

Maybe that mulch is something someone said to you. It hurt you and you won’t let it go.

Or it may be a relationship that you know is not good for you. Instead of coming when God calls you to walk away, you remain in a toxic situation.

It may just be fear of the unknown. It’s easier to stay where you’re at.

Walk away. Leave it.

You don’t know what you’re missing!

God has something so much better for you.

You have nothing to lose (except for pain, heartache, bitterness, anxiety, depression etc.) and everything to gain.

Stretched Out Love

1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent love for one another…

As I was pondering these verses this morning I noticed this word “fervent” in the old language meant “stretched out.” God desires us to have a “stretched out” love. He wants us to love one another even when it is undeserved. That is where the stretching comes.

People stretch us. But God will stretch us further still.

Just when we think we’ve reached our limit, He takes us beyond.

I think I know God well enough to say He has brought someone to your mind just now. You probably said, “Nope not them. I can’t.” That is exactly who God wants you to love.

Matthew 5:46 If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that?

God is using this person to stretch you beyond yourself.

I love what the outside of this package for Stretch Armstrong reads:

“Stretch him long, stretch him thin and watch him go back into shape again”

Grab hold and pull. You can stretch 13 inch Stretch Armstrong up to four feet! Squish him, scrunch him, and stretch him out. He always returns to his original shape. Ready for any wild positions kids can think up.

No matter which direction he is pulled in, he is pliable.

James 3:17 But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others.

Even when stretched long and thin, he never broke.

In every circumstance we are called to love. In every instance where people are involved: marriage, children, friendship and even the church God desires us to love extravagantly.

Perhaps you are dealing with an exceptionally difficult person. God will enable you to do what is humanly impossible.

2 Peter 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…

We can’t do this on our own. We are depending on His divine power, not our own.

Whether we are dealing with an unreasonable husband, demanding friend, or ungrateful sister our response: love out of a sincere heart.

Love must be intentional, unceasing, and constant in effort.

When we give until it hurts:

James 4:6 … He gives more …

The distinguishing mark of a Christian is love.

John 13:35 “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Sometimes we know what we should do, but just don’t want to. We feel we’ve done all we can do.

Malachi 3:8 …will a man rob God?

In this particular verse the people were holding back their offering. They had more to give. They knew what God expected but they were unwilling to give it. I think that we can be that way with our love. We can look at a person and size them up by the things they’ve done or haven’t done and say, “I’m not reaching out to them. I won’t love them. They don’t deserve it. Look at the way they’ve treated me.”

God wants us to give more than we think we are able. He desires us to go all out; love lavishly.

Mal 3:10 Bring ALL…into the storehouse…try me now in this… “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.”

When you bring ALL that you have and “stretch out” like this, God will pour out His blessing on you.

You may start out looking like one of these pictures, but in the end you’ll be looking more like Jesus.

Come Home

thomas kincade

There’s no place like home for the holidays.

Wouldn’t you agree?

Where is home?

Home is where the heart of my Dad resides; my Heavenly Dad.

I know this concept of God was hard for me to grasp. Since I didn’t have a Dad growing up, I didn’t understand. Let me share what I learned.

A real Dad never abandons His child.

We may leave God, but He never leaves us. No matter how far we walk away from Him, He stays put.

He waits.

He pleads; but never forces us.

You don’t have to live in the pigpen anymore. If you’re tired, you can come home.

Walk away from it. A new life awaits.

A real Dad never stops loving His child.

There is nothing we can do to make Him stop loving us. There is nothing He cannot and will not forgive.

If you doubt that love, you need look no further than the cross.

He died for you.

A real Dad never gives up on His child.

That longing in His heart for the relationship to be made right is always there. The heart of our Heavenly Dad is overflowing with love and life.

Come back to His house.

Whether it’s been 2 weeks, 2 years or 20…He waits with open arms. He longs to have you back.

Won’t you come Home for the holidays?
