Long Shot

 

The boy took the long shot.
He missed.
He tried again. And again. And again.
Still kept missing.
Every time though, he looked at me.
I was giving him the thumbs up. A smile. Then a nod. A shrug of the shoulders. I just kept cheering him on. No big deal if he missed.
He tried. He gave it his all.
I saw some of the other boys making fun of him. Shaking their heads. Talking amongst themselves.
He didn’t see them. Do you know why?
