Reaping and Sowing

I watched in awe. Lost in my own little world. It was a little overwhelming. We’d been to this farm before. Not so long ago. It was a completely different scene. I was in the throes of Autism. The boy cried. The. Entire. Trip. He wouldn’t pick a pumpkin. He wouldn’t pet the goats.

He. Just. Cried.

My sons behavior was so out of control, I didn’t know what to do. His fears dominated every aspect of his life. And mine.

God said, “Teach him My word.”

And so I did. Day in and day out. I didn’t see any immediate changes. It was slow going. That’s how the Bible works though. You may not notice anything different. But one day you wake up and realize your whole life is different. Radically.

God’s word is transforming.

Pain is often the seed that grows a garden in our lives.

Seeds are covered in darkness. At the right time, the hand of God moves upon it. He sends rain. And the sun shines on it. That dead seed blossoms. New life is birthed. That seed is turned into something completely different. So it is as we plant the seed of God’s word. A new ministry, a book, a helping hand or comforting word is often birthed through suffering.

God makes everything beautiful in His time.

Darkness is just a season.

Those tears will reap shouts of joy.

Through that difficult time I learned the magnificent power of the word of God.

It changes you. It can reprogram your mind. It is more powerful than any drug. Street or prescription. It is matchless. Nothing can compare.

If you are seeking a change, give it shot. What do you have to lose?

Jeremiah 29:13-14 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back from your captivity….

God wants you to seek Him with all your heart.

Full surrender. All in.

1 Corinthians 2:9 “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

Foundation is everything!

He missed it y’all.

It was only an inch off.

Didn’t matter.

It would never pass inspection.

The county we live in has very specific codes and regulations that must be followed for building a deck.

My husband thought he knew what he was doing.

Turns out he didn’t. He just didn’t do it right.

The whole thing needs to be dismantled.

Foundation is everything. It is much the same in our spiritual life.

1 Corinthians 3:11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have–Jesus Christ.

How’s your spiritual foundation?

We can think we know the right way to get to heaven. Doing it our own way.

Matthew 7:13 “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way.

Religion doesn’t save us. Growing up in church doesn’t save us. Living in America doesn’t save us. Doing good deeds doesn’t save us.

A good father will always direct us in the right way that we should go.

Our Heavenly Father tells us very clearly how we can know for sure the right way to heaven.

Believe in Jesus.

John 3:16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

God loves YOU so much that He was willing to give His son to die on the cross to pay the penalty for your sin. And mine. Hell is the penalty for sin. It is a real place. God is loving dad who wishes none to go there. We have a difficult choice to make. Eternal life is a choice. It will cost you. What will it cost you? Your life.

Mark 1:15 … “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!”

Repent simply means to change your mind. In other words, I was going my own way. I was living a life of sin and doing things that displease the Lord. I changed my mind. I turned from that life and followed Jesus. When Jesus died, He didn’t stay dead. He rose from the dead. His resurrection power will help us live for Him.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

I left my old life behind. I began to build a solid foundation in Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:1 For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands.

If you’ve never asked Jesus to forgive you, I want to encourage you to do that today. Surrender to Him. Ask Him to be your Savior. You can have new life today, what are you waiting for?

Mess or Masterpiece?

We see a mess.

God sees a masterpiece.

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

God knows: I know your joys. Your sorrows. Your hidden pain. It’s not hidden from Me. You see no purpose for it. I see the those dark times as the backdrop of the sunrise I’m painting with the canvas of your life.

God asked Jeremiah to do something very difficult.

His reply? “Oh Lord, I can’t!”

Do you find yourself saying these words?

I can’t. I can’t be married to this man anymore. I can’t quit smoking this, drinking that, using and abusing. I can’t face this life one more day. Unspeakable fear. Humiliation. Rejection. I can’t be me. I’m too young. I’m too old. I’m too scared.

I can’t do what you’re asking me to do.

God’s reply? “Don’t say that. You can and you will.” When God calls you to do something, He will make sure you have everything you need to accomplish His will.

Hebrews 10:36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise…

Endurance: to remain under the pressure.

It may look very dark right at the moment.

Hang in there.

Jeremiah 1:8 “Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the LORD.

Fear no one.

Fear of man is a snare.

Fear nothing.

1 John 4:18…Perfect love casts out fear.

No challenge is too great for you.

God gave him what he needed. At the right time. God is always on time. Never late.

Not one word of God has ever failed. No not one.

If God is asking you to do something very difficult, take Him at His word. You can trust Him. You don’t have to do it alone. He was with Jeremiah. He will be with you. You got this. God’s got you. When you look back you won’t believe the beauty God made from the ashes of your life.
