Rest for your soul

Salt water filled the morning breeze.

With the sun just peeking over the horizon, the boy and I walked slow.

“Mommy, would you ever sell me?”

What??? Where did that come from?

I retorted quick, “Of course not!”

He shot right back, “What if someone offered you this whole beach filled with gold?”

Without missing a beat, “What if someone offered you the whole world?”

“There is nothing anyone could ever offer me that would make me want to sell you! You’re my priceless treasure.”

Do you know that is what the Lord thinks of you?

Yes, you.

You are a priceless treasure to Him. So valuable that He would give up heaven. Leave His throne. Come down to this filthy world. Make Himself vulnerable. Come as a little baby. There is nothing you could do to make Him stop loving you. Yes, you. Jesus was offered the whole world by Satan, if He would bow down and worship him. He refused. He had you on His mind. Yes, you. He lived a sinless life, and yet died as a criminal. He did that so you could spend eternity with Him in heaven. All you have to do is say, “Yes.” It’s like a marriage proposal. It’s a choice. It’s an offer I couldn’t refuse. Just like a bride, she leaves her old life behind to follow her husband. I left my old life. I received something way beyond what I could’ve imagined.

How about you?

2 Corinthians 5:17 If anyone is in Christ [s]he is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold all things become new.

Jesus made me new. He changed me. He loves me. He loves you.

Doubts and discouragement come. Exhaustion and bone weary circumstances. That’s when Satan arrives. Rebuke him. Just like Jesus did:

Luke 4:8 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written,

‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’

Grasp hold of this: Jesus loves you with an everlasting love. Constant and sure.

He isn’t going anywhere. Every outward circumstance may change. He doesn’t change.

Rest in that.

I will trust You Lord!

I had this dream last night.

We were on a small sightseeing boat.

It was cloudy. No rain. Overall, very uneventful.

Out of nowhere, this gigantic ship cut us off. It came from behind. On a diagonal. We never saw it coming.

The wake of the ship was massive. It was unavoidable; we would have to go through it.

Panic set in.

Just then, the captain of our boat floored it; full speed ahead. He turned directly into the wave.

I closed my eyes.

My heart spoke soft, “I trust You, Lord.”

An unexplainable peace flooded my being. I opened my eyes. We took a direct hit from that wave. Crashed right into it. You know what? Not even one drop of water entered our boat.

We kept right on going…

In the unexpected waves of life, we have a Captain. Jesus. He will see us through. Jesus is our protection. Without Him, we have no safety.

We are not in control of the boat. He is. The hand that took us into the wave, will be the hand that takes us out.

In His time. Sometimes it’s a long ride.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

Trust with all your heart. No doubting. When we doubt, we become like the waves. Tossed and turning. Up and down.

We have a wise Captain.

Matthew 8:26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the waves, and there was a great calm…even the wind and waves obey Him.

My God Is Awesome!

“I’ve never seen this before.”

This. Coming from a Professor at Johns Hopkins, was confirmation.

My God is awesome.

Here’s what happened: Over a year ago I was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule. This nodule caused me many uncomfortable symptoms. The doctor did a myriad of testing. She offered me three choices. Surgery to completely remove the thyroid. Definitely didn’t want that. Swallow a radioactive pill and burn the nodule and hopefully save the thyroid. Definitely didn’t want that. Take a medication the rest of my life that could cause liver damage. Definitely didn’t want that.

Ray and I talked it over and both of us felt strongly I should wait. Let’s do nothing for now.

Let’s ask our friends to pray.

The doctor scheduled me to come back in three months. Upon that visit she implied some of my testing may have been wrong. There were things that didn’t make sense to her. She couldn’t explain what happened. Later in the year, I had a biopsy. Although all the testing indicated cancer, the biopsy was negative. No cancer. All of my hyperthyroid symptoms subsided. I didn’t return to that doctor.

Last month I went to Johns Hopkins. After looking over all my test results and some of his own, he exclaimed, “I’ve never seen this before. I should write a paper on you. Here is what is happening. You have two separate thyroid diseases. On the right, is the nodule. It causes the thyroid to be overactive. On the left side, you have Hashimoto’s disease. This causes the thyroid to be underactive. I can understand why your doctor was confused. All your blood work is normal. I can’t explain this.”

I can explain it! My friends were praying for me. God did His thing.

He sat speechless.

He did lots more testing. Just got those results: Every last test was normal!

It was a great birthday gift.

Genesis 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”
