Did you bring your umbrella?

I showed up without my umbrella.

Even the bride had one.

Me? No umbrella.

The forecast said rain. It was cloudy.

I should’ve expected the rain.

But, I didn’t. I wasn’t prepared.

The rain did come.

I would need that umbrella.

Faith can be much like an umbrella. We can show up without it. We can look at our  circumstances and become discouraged. Then we start to waver. We forget that promise God gave us. When God gives us a promise, it will happen. Sometimes that promise takes a long time to come to pass. We can start to lose heart. Don’t give up. Make sure you show up with your umbrella. Every. Time.

Forecasts will fail. People are unpredictable. Situations change.

God never changes.

Jeremiah 32:42 This is what the LORD says: Just as I have brought all these calamities on them, so I will do all the good I have promised them.

God will do what He says.

In return, you do what He says.

1 Corinthians 13:4 Love suffers and is kind.

This word “suffers” is the Greek word: Makrothymeo: it means to persevere and be patient and brave in enduring trials and trouble. It is that quality that does not surrender to circumstances or succumb under trial. It is the opposite of anger, and associated with showing mercy.

Whatever you’re going through, trust the word above your trial. Persevere.

God has given us faith. We need it. It is a gift.

Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

Sometimes those darts are more like missiles. One after another. Lies. Lies. Lies.

God will do what He says.

Jeremiah 32:17 Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.

There is no heart too hard. No obstacle is too big for Him to move. No marriage too far gone.

Jesus never fails. Not one of His words has ever failed. You can trust Him.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to

His purpose.

Take out your shield of faith. Don’t leave home without it.

God will do what He says.

Nothing is impossible!

The boy and I were chatting. Sharing some verses.

This one:

Luke 1:37 “Nothing is impossible with God.”

He says it with his eyes first, the doubt. Then this:

“Yeah, except, unless I tried to stand on a ball with two toes on one foot.”

I say plain: “Well, if God calls you to stand on a ball with two toes on one foot, could you do it?”

He agrees. Yes.

He searches his mind some more, and challenges, “How about walk on water? I couldn’t do that.”

I remind him of Peter.

He laughs, filling the room with grace like rain.

Really it’s the Lord reminding me.

“Nothing is impossible with God.”

There are no exceptions. None.

Not cancer. No not a broken marriage. Nor a wayward boy.

Mary’s heart had questions.

Luke 1:34″…How can this be…?”

Maybe you’re questioning. You just can’t see any solution to your situation.

2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Don’t be afraid.

The Lord is birthing something new in your life.

Birth is painful.

The Holy Spirit will endue you with Power.

Power to do whatever He asks you to do.

Even if that means standing with two toes on a ball on one foot.

Luke 1:45 “You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.”

No Longer Slaves

Exodus 5:22-23 Then Moses went back to the LORD and protested, “Why have you brought all this trouble on your own people, Lord? Why did you send me? Ever since I came to Pharaoh as your spokesman, he has been even more brutal to your people. And you have done nothing to rescue them!”

I hear him so loud. His heart pouring forth.

“God, You have not done what You said You would do. This thing ain’t going down the way I thought. Nothing’s changed. In fact, it’s gotten exponentially worse. Why have You allowed this to happen?”

And I understand. Because sometimes we get discouraged when nothing goes as planned.

Things look really grim.

Fear creeps in.

Everything comes to a halt. We stop moving. And we stop believing the Lord and His word. We start questioning His promise. We’re ready to bail. One foot out the door. Handcuffed to fear.

Romans 8:15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

Abba means Daddy or Papa.

Your Daddy is with You. There is never a moment that you are alone. Every battle you face, He is in it with you. You can depend on Your Heavenly Daddy. If He gave you a promise, He will come through. He will deliver. Jesus never fails. His spoken word can be trusted. Even when you can’t see any way, believe, He is on the way. He just may be taking care of a few more pieces. Your view is limited. He is there. He’s in the mix.

Sometimes fear persists.

God is greater than our fears.

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment.

Your Daddy loves you. If He called you to do something, do it. Don’t look anything else, but His word.

Don’t look at man.

Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe.

Don’t make decisions based on the way you “feel.”

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

What if I fail?

Proverbs 24:16 The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.

God’s goal isn’t always success. At least not as we would define success. The cross looked like the biggest failure in history.

But. The. Resurrection. Happened.

God can resurrect your marriage.

He can turn the heart of your rebellious child.

Your Daddy can break the cycle of addiction.

Papa can give you courage to take that step of faith.

Keep looking for Him. Waiting. Expecting.

Don’t be a slave to fear again.

The Resurrection is true.

It is true.

It is true.

It is true.
