In the fire

This little bear cub was rescued. A blazing fire raged around him. Smoke billowing from the forest, a brave man dared to go in and save him. Afterward, this cub would not let him go. He wrapped his tiny paws around his leg; clinging to him for dear life. He was following him everywhere he went. Others were standing around, he didn’t bother with them. He only wanted the one who rescued him.

Are you in the fire today?

There is only One who came to seek and save the lost. Jesus. Only One who can help in our weakness. Jesus. Only One can fill our emptiness. Jesus. Only One is the Savior. Jesus. Only One can restore what is lost. Jesus. Only One can comfort in the night. Jesus. Only One can part the sea. Jesus. Only One came to rescue us. Die for our sins. Rise again. Only Jesus.

Take hold of Him and don’t let go. He will never disappoint you. Never abandon you.

He loves you. Yes, you.

Now that makes for a happy Saturday!

Eviction Notice….

The eviction process is long.

I know firsthand. Friends of ours have a squatter living in their home. He has taken up residence. He won’t leave. Outright refuses. He isn’t paying the rent. This man has no right to be there. Yet, day after day he occupies their home.

He mocks.

Even taunts.

At times, he even seems to be their friend.

He is not.

He needs to go. Today. Not tomorrow.

Sometimes our thoughts can be just like this squatter.

Don’t welcome them in.

Our thoughts are not always our friend.

Thoughts of insecurity, failure, self loathing; none of these are from the Lord. They have no place in our heart. They tear down. Rob. Kill. Destroy.

Who does that sound like?

The enemy sows tares among the wheat.

Discernment is very important. Line up the thought with the word of God. If it doesn’t line up, throw it out.

Evict. Out you go.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding.

When we put our faith in outward circumstances, we give up possession of our joy. People will disappoint us. They will let us down.

Possession starts with a thought. Just one.

If we don’t immediately kick it out, it gains traction. It’s in the front door. Before you know it, this thought takes over the whole house.

Possession is seized.

Have some disquieting thoughts entered your mind?

Dismiss them immediately.

Philippians 4:8 …Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

What is true?

You are loved by an amazing God. A God who loves you with an everlasting love. Love that never ever quits. Love that isn’t conditional. You are safe. You can feel safe and secure in the Lord. He’s holding this all together. He upholds all things by the Power of His word. He has always taken care of you. He will never stop. No matter what happens. You are secure in Him. Your security doesn’t lie in another person. What they think or feel about you is irrelevant and trivial. When you aren’t sure about anything else, you can be sure of this:

God is faithful.

He will never fail you.

And that makes for a Happy Saturday!

Waddling along…

These little legs can barely keep up.
It’s slow going. All that effort can tire a duckling out.

Try as she may, she is growing weary.

Isaiah 40:28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

Are you feeling worn down?

Hear the heart of Jesus whisper soft:
I understand. I know your heart. Feel your pain. I can see you are tired. And worn out. Utterly exhausted. You’re in a hard place. Many people would’ve run away. You stay. And you continue to stay. Keep pressing on. I will bless you for it. You will be rewarded.

Isaiah 40:29 He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.

Jesus grants us power to rise above our circumstances. Strength to do what’s next. That may be a step into the darkness. Capacity to love the unloveable. Ability to be still and calmly listen. Or get up and get going.

Isaiah 40:30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall…

Sometimes it may feel like this long stretch is not going to end. God comes to meet us on the road. Right where we’re at. He comes gentle.

Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Strength is renewed in waiting.

Trials grow us up. They change us. Change is a very good thing.

What changes? Is it our circumstances? Most likely, not.

God changes our hearts. He gives us a new view of Himself. He increases our faith. He gives us staying power. Power to stay the course. To run, even when we don’t know exactly where that leads. Wait on the Lord. He will never disappoint you. Man will let you down. Jesus never will. Keep going. Don’t quit.

Jesus never fails.
