Rest Awhile

Are you trying to carry some really heavy things? Jesus would say, “Come, lay them down at My feet and rest awhile.”
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
5 You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord

Giving God Access…

These flowers. So sweet and dainty. They’ve popped up everywhere. In fact, they’re in my own backyard. If you look real close, they’re not flowers at all.

They’re weeds.

Upon further inspection you’ll notice it’s killing everything underneath.

It’s all brown and dead.

Destroying the whole backyard.

This should’ve never happened.

We pay Trugreen to come and spray the yard. Only one problem: The gate was locked.

He couldn’t get into the backyard. It was tied up with a rope. Tight and secure.

I’m sure the guy tried.

There was no access.

So the weeds grew and took over. Now everything’s dying.

Something similar can happen in our lives.

There are things we allow into our lives that don’t belong. They seem harmless enough. Not a big deal. Everyone else may even be fine with it. But it takes over. Pretty soon it’s destroying your life. You start to isolate yourself.

Shut the gate of your heart. Don’t allow anyone access. Not even the Lord.

He needs you to let Him in. He won’t force His way.

Bitterness, anger, and unforgiveness can consume you.

In a similar way, so can any sin.

It starts out as a small comprise.

Something harmless.

2 Corinthians 11:14 No wonder, Satan disguises himself into an angel of light.

Before you realize it, you’re in a place you never thought you’d be.

Open the gate of your heart. Give God access.

Let Him take all those things away. Don’t hold onto them any longer.

Sit down with the Lord. Talk to Him about it. He already knows. He’s just been waiting for you to come to Him. It’s hard. I know.

Isaiah 41:10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
