Fear or Faith?

Mom called. She always wants two things when I visit. Small milkshake. Small fries.

Do you wonder where the boy gets it from?

A little voice from the backseat piped in, “Could I get a milkshake and fries too?”

He knows my usual answer is an an emphatic, “No.”

Today was different. I told him, “Yes. You can have a milkshake and fries too.”

He gushed, “You’re the best Mudder in the whole world.”

But I felt a twinge of pain in my heart. I want him to think I’m the best mother in the whole world… even if I don’t give him what he wants.

Immediately I heard the Lord’s voice whisper soft, “If I don’t give you what you want, will you still think I’m good? Even if I don’t act in the way you think I should, will you still trust Me? If I say, “No” to your request, will you still praise Me?”

God doesn’t always do what we think He should.

We don’t always get the result we’re asking for.

He doesn’t always heal.

He doesn’t always act in the time frame I have set.

We can feel the pressure.

Our fears can take over.

Joshua 1:9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua was a leader. He was still afraid. If he wasn’t, God wouldn’t have said, “Don’t be afraid.”

In fact, He didn’t say it just once.

He said it 4 times in one chapter.

Don’t be afraid.

I am with you.

Fears do come.

Fear says:

I can’t… I won’t… I’ll never…

I can… I will… I must…

Fears do come. What should we do?

Have courage.

Courage is a state of mind.

That’s where faith comes on the scene. Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

We have many unknown variables.

But we have a known God. A certain God. A God who fights for us. A God who is mighty. Strong. Powerful. A God who can make the blind see. the deaf hear, open doors that are closed, and raise the dead. A good good God who always has our best interest in mind.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things

are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Meditate on these things. Things that are true. Every word of God is true. Every word contrary to His word is a lie.

Lies come from the thief who wants to steal.

Dismiss the lies.

Whatever has come your way, you can know God wants to use it. He wants to reveal something about Himself to you. And others. Ask Him how you can use this to bring Him glory.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

All things. Even things that don’t look so good right now.
Our God is good, He loves you so very much. You can trust Him. He is in control of every detail of your life.
